Light Induced Changes in Pigment and Lipid Profiles of Bryopsidales Algae

چکیده
Bryopsidales (Chlorophyta) are cultured and consumed in several regions of the planet known for their high nutritional value bioprospection potential, due to a content relevant polar lipids polysaccharides. Among other characteristic features, these marine algae possessing unique photosynthetic pigment-protein complexes absence (in nearly all species investigated) functional xanthophyll cycle, ubiquitous photoprotection mechanism present most plants. With aim characterizing photophysiology this atypical group algae, we investigated changes pigment lipidome two ( Codium tomentosum Bryopsis plumosa ) exposed 7 days low or irradiance (20 vs. 1,000 μmol photons m –2 s –1 ). Our results show that light has strong effect on composition, triggering time-dependent accumulation all- trans -neoxanthin t -Neo) violaxanthin (Viola). High light-acclimated macroalgae also displayed shift lipidome, including trend lyso-glycolipids, highly unsaturated phospholipids betaine lipids. We hypothesize observed shifts lipid composition could promote interaction between -Neo Viola with siphonaxanthin–chlorophyll–protein (SCP) photosystem II (PSII) within thylakoid membranes chloroplasts. Light induced contribute fitness by reducing damages apparatus under increased irradiance.

Light-induced Efficiency and Pigment Alterations in Red Algae
The low photosynthetic efficiency of chlorophyll in freshly collected red algae, can, in the case of Porphyra perforata, P. nereocystis, and Porphyridium cruentum, be increased by growing the algae for 10 days in red or blue light. Exposure to darkness or to green light maintains the algae in their originally low efficiency with respect to chlorophyll, while retaining the high efficiency of phy...
متن کاملLight-Induced Changes in Fatty Acid Profiles of Specific Lipid Classes in Several Freshwater Phytoplankton Species
We tested the influence of two light intensities [40 and 300 μmol PAR / (m(2)s)] on the fatty acid composition of three distinct lipid classes in four freshwater phytoplankton species. We chose species of different taxonomic classes in order to detect potentially similar reaction characteristics that might also be present in natural phytoplankton communities. From samples of the bacillariophyte...
